Social Policy
What can we do to be involved in Social Policy work?
There are three main roles in social policy work:
- Managers and trustees - the desire to do SP work must flow from the top of an organisation; without this desire, translated into it being seen as an activity that has value to the agency, its clients and the wider public, it is almost impossible for individual workers to carry out SP work. We would ask managers and trustees to consider making SP work part of the practical day-to-day culture within an agency, and that time be made available to advice workers who wish to pursue this activity.
- Caseworkers/advice workers - without the evidence gathered via direct client work SP work has no validity; it is our constant frontline interactions with clients that provides the basis for everything else. We hope that caseworkers will swiftly become used to using the system detailed below, and will help us, as a network, to collect the basic information that is needed to inform any campaigns
- Social Policy volunteers - under the new SP evidence collection system we will be recruiting volunteers specifically to do SP work - this will involve visiting individual agencies and doing full evidence write-ups of cases identified by caseworkers. These write-ups can then be used to inform and illuminate reports and campaigns to be presented to decision makers, and to the wider public via the local and national press.
