Action for Blind People is an expert national organisation, ensuring blind and partially sighted people get practical support in all aspects of their lives.

Independent living advice

We can support you to live as independently as possible by providing tailored information and guidance to:

 help you understand what it means to be registered as blind or partially sighted and guide you through the process

 access day-to-day living support

 deal with housing issues

 access benefits and help to complete forms

 put you in touch with Social Services and other organisations that can help you

 access self-directed support and individual budgets.

Information Technology

We offer a range of practical support relating to IT, from advice on assistive technology to buying the best computer.

Employment advice

Let us help you to prepare for work or to retrain, find the right job or stay in employment if you are losing your sight while working. We also provide specialist advice and support on starting your own business.

Children, young people and families

We support children and young people to enjoy full and active lives through access to information, education, leisure and sporting opportunities ensuring they are as equipped as possible for adult life and the world of work.

Emotional Support

Action recognises the importance of specific emotional support and counselling services for blind and partially sighted people and to keep them at the centre of our service provision. Without the availability of timely, appropriate emotional support and counselling, people often fail to adjust well to their sight loss and consequently may suffer in all aspects of their lives, e.g. socially, in employment, relationships.

Rehabilitation

We recognise that early intervention enables people to achieve independence and improve their quality of life by regaining their independent living skills, orientation and mobility and communication.

Resource Centres

Our centres offer an excellent opportunity to gain advice, try out and purchase equipment and find information about local services.

We also provide...

Vision Hotels;

Vision Hotels are located in the Lake District, Devon, Somerset and West Sussex. They are fully accessible for visually impaired people and sighted guests are welcome too. www.visionhotels.co.uk

Mobile information service;

Our mobiles travel across the UK and provide up-to-date, free and impartial sight loss information, plus advice and access to products.

We raise awareness of the issues faced by blind and partially sighted people and work with employers, educational establishments and commercial and public service providers to tailor solutions to meet their needs. This includes specialist visual awareness training.
