Why Come?
When you work in the voluntary sector you have to be good at almost everything. And one of the most important things to be good at is administration. Getting the systems right and convincing others of their importance is a real skill.
Aim:
To enable participants to build on the skills of running effective office systems and increase their confidence in managing their workload and communicating positively with colleagues, managers and the public

This course is highly participatory and includes tutor input discussions, workshops and sharing of good practice

Cost: The cost for attending the course at BDAC will be £120 per delegate (37% saving) and we can accommodate up to 14 people. Places will be booked on a first come, first served basis so an early response is recommended.

Introduction to Welfare Benefits
A Three day Course at Bristol Citizens Advice Bureau – January 2012
This course will run on Monday’s for three weeks on 16th and 23rd and the 30th January. These days form part of our wider volunteer adviser training programme. The three days on benefits work as a stand alone course and we have capacity to offer a small number of places to advisers from other agencies.
This three day course is a comprehensive introduction to the welfare benefits system and includes information on all the key benefits, the eligibility criteria for them, how they fit together and how they are calculated.
After this course you will be able to;
Day One
· Describe the difference between contributory, non contributory and means tested benefits.
· Describe the contribution conditions for contributory benefits.
· Name and describe the key features of the key welfare benefits
· Identify what information you need from clients to be able to check eligibility.
· Identify which benefits a client may be eligible for.
Days Two & Three
· Calculate Job seekers Allowance, Employment Support Allowance, Housing Benefit, Council Tax Benefit, Pension Credit and Child & Working Tax Credit.
This course will be suitable for any adviser who is new to the field of welfare rights or for a more experienced adviser who would like a refresher. No prior knowledge of welfare rights is needed as this is an introductory course.
Day one of the course can be booked alone as a stand alone course.
In order to attend days two and three you need to have completed day one.
The cost for the full three day course is £80.00
The cost for attending day one only is £45.00

Citizens Advice Bureau
All three local CABx (Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire) offer full training to their volunteers. This is a comprehensive course covering basic advice skills, such as interviewing and case-recording, and also contains modules on all of the standard subject areas, such as housing, debt and welfare benefits. Citizens Advice
CA is the membership body for all of the indepedent CAB charities across the country. As well as supporting the training in individual Bureaux they also offer specialist level training for advisers who have completed basic training. These course are run at a variety of venues across the country and are open to all advice workers, not just those from within the CAB service.
